Dan Pal’s pods bring enlightenment to Durham Techno Café
Work has completed work on a tutorial classroom – the Techno Café – at the Durham University campus, in north-east England. The café-style area has used Danpalon polycarbonate panels for the main internal walling and pod areas. Each pod is equipped with plasma screens, network points and seating, creating state-of-the-art learning facilities within the department of Computer Science.
The walls and pod areas use 200m2 of opal-finish Danpalon Multicell polycarbonate panels, which are 8mm thick and 600mm wide. The standing seams are held together by their own connection system, which is secured to the main structure and secret-fixed behind the flush external surface of the polycarbonate. The panels are back lit by concealed lighting.
The design of the café was by project architects P H Partnership of Birtley (Tyne and Wear) and the installation was carried out by T Manners & Sons Ltd of Bishop Auckland (County Durham).
The Danpalon system, which is more often used for extensive, external roofing and walling applications, is just as effective when used internally. The ability to cold-form the panels to a radius of 1.80m results in innovative, practical and yet cost effective installations.
